Colpy Colts v Kemnay FC
Away, Port Elphinstone

Colony Colts   4,     Kemnay FC   8

Split into 3 20-minute sessions, Kemnay came out on top in all three.
The first third finished 3-2 in Kemnay's favour, with two goals from Lewis Thomson separated by a goal from Callum Murdoch.
In the second session, Kemnay again came out on top by a 3-2 margin. Lewis again hit two, this time a quick-fire double in the early minutes of the game, with 'player of the match' Andrew Grant completing the scoring from the penalty spot following a hand ball.
In the final third, Kemnay completed the win with a 2-0 scoreline, Lewis hitting his fifth of the tie with Justin Lawrie completing the scoring from a tight angle.

Kemnay FC v Ellon Meadows Colts
At Home, Bogbeth Park, Kemnay

Kemnay FC   3,     Ellon Meadows Colts   2

The first 20-minute half proved to be quite a poor affair, with Ellon shading it by a goal. Kemnay had few shots on target and weren't showing the flowing football from last week's 8-4 win.
In the second half, a much brighter Kemnay came out to play in the pouring rain. Three quick goals settled the team down, and they looked a lot more comfortable than in the first half. Skipper Jordan Muirhead got the ball rolling with a great strike while up for a Kemnay corner. Next to go in was a thumping effort from Justin Lawrie, playing outfield for the second half after starting in goals.
The deciding goal came from Callum Murdoch, adding to his goal scored last week at Colony Colts with a well taken shot. It turned out to be the deciding goal as Ellon pulled one back late on, and the Kemnay defence had to look lively a couple of times before the end as Ellon pressed for an equaliser. Over the piece Kemnay just deserved the win, but were pushed all the way by an evenly matched Ellon side.

Kemnay FC v Dyce BC
At Home, Bogbeth Park, Kemnay

Kemnay FC   0,     Dyce BC   5

Kemnay fell to their first defeat of the season at the feet of Dyce BC, in what was an expected win for the visitors in the pouring rain at Bogbeth Park. The first 20-minute half finished 2-0 to the Aberdeen club, with a lot of determined midfield play by Kemnay keeping the Dyce boys away from the goal for large periods, and some good defensive work keeping the scoreline down. Up front, Lewis, Douglas and Andrew were doing well with the few chances they got, but a well organised Dyce backline were rarely troubled.
In the second half, Justin again moved to an outfield position with Andrew going into the goals, and staking a claim for the position full time. Although the second period ended 3-0 to Dyce, it would have been a lot more but for an excellent performance between the sticks from Andrew, and he ran Lewis close for the man of the match trophy. A change in defence for the start of the half didn't work too well, and Jordan Muirhead was soon back on the field to marshall the defence against a well organised opponent. In the end, it was a very good performance against a team obviously in the 'A' category, filled with very good and well organised players.

Ellon Meadows v Kemnay
Away, at Ellon

Ellon Meadows   1,     Kemnay FC   7

Back on the road, and back to winning ways for Kemnay, playing at Ellon Meadows this week. A change in formation to a 2-3-1 saw Kemnay attacking from the off, and it didn't take long for Callum Murdoch to open the scoring, with a brilliantly lobbed effort floating over the Ellon keeper and rippling the back of the net. An early goal, and an early shout for goal of the game! Lewis Thomson added to his impressive goal haul with a double in the first half. The Ellon side had few real chances on the Kemnay goal, with just a few scary moments for the defence caused by dwelling on the ball instead of clearing sooner. The only reply from Ellon summed this up perfectly, when it was only a deflected cross coming off a Kemnay defender which was able to beat Justin Lawrie in goals.
The second half started as positively for Kemnay as the first, with Lewis Thomson almost adding to his 2 goals within the first few seconds. He wasn't stopped for long, as he soon hit the first of FOUR second half goals. It wasn't just 'The Lewis Show' though, as calmer finishing from Douglas Young on a couple of occasions, and for Justin and Callum, could have seen more goals hitting the net. A good overall performance for Kemnay, a tidy defensive display which saw Jordan Muirhead just beat Josh Collie to 'player of the match' and excellent foward play from Lewis (as well as his 6 goals!) which was well supported with the midfielders' tough tackling and good passing, ensured there was only going to be one result from the start of the game.

Westdyke BC v Kemnay FC
Away, at Crombie School Fields, Westhill

Westdyke BC   2     Kemnay FC 4

Another good away day as Kemnay claimed the first defeat of the season for Westdyke BC. A very good Westdyke side started the game best, and in what turned out to be a very hard fought and even first half, it was the Westhill side that finished 1-0 ahead. A few indecisive moments in the Kemnay box could have resulted in more goals for the home team, but a mixture of luck and hard work saw the score stay down. There wasn't as much sign of the flowing attacking play of last week, and it resulted in few good chances for Kemnay
The second half started a lot brighter for Kemnay, with Lewis Thomson pulling the sides level after a few chances for both teams hadn't been taken. A quick second from Lewis saw Kemnay settle, and they started to play a much better passing game. The defence was also tighter in the second period, which allowed for more controlled play going forward. After a couple of chances for Westdyke which were mopped up by the defence, Lewis was able to take advantage of another good attack, and he slotted home at the second attempt after a very good stop from the home keeper spilled back to the Kemnay striker. A fourth was to quickly follow, again Lewis applying the finishing touch after a period of good passing play by Kemnay. Although Westdyke had begun to tire towards the end, they still managed a consolation goal as again the ball wasn't cleared quickly enough from the defence, and the Westhill striker slotted the ball past Justin at the front post. Overall, a good win for Kemnay as it was clear that Westdyke are a very good side, and well organised. The second half saw a much better performance from Kemnay which we can hopefully carry on the the home game with Stonehaven next week.

Kemnay FC v Stonehaven Ajax Team 1
At Home, Bogbeth Park, Kemnay

Kemnay FC   1     Stonehaven Ajax Team 1   1

Stonehaven Ajax Team 1 left Kemnay with a point in what turned out to be a very close match at Bogbeth Park. A very quick goal by Stonehaven gave the visitors a lead in the first minute, which they managed to hold to until the last minutes of the tie. A few indecisive moments in the Kemnay midfield could have resulted in more goals for the away team, but more fluent passing and more attacking of the ball could have seen Kemnay back in the game before half time. It summed up the first half that our best player by quite a long way was 'Player of the Match' Liam Morrison in the home defence. Much like last week, the flowing attacking play of earlier games was missing, and it made it easier for the south Aberdeenshire team to clear attacks and go forward more themselves.
The second half started a bit better for Kemnay, and they looked a lot more likely to score in the second period. The defence wasn't as busy as the first half, and the visiting goalie was seeing more of the ball. Douglas Young was unlucky with a turn and shot which scraped the face of the post and out for a goal kick, and unusually Lewis Thomson was off target with a few attempts which he would normally have buried. One in particular saw him brilliantly beating the last defender at the half-way line and sprinting to the box with three Stonehaven players in pursuit, and he put the ball past the keeper, but unfortunately a few inches past the post. the tide had turned though, and it wasn't a great surprise when the goal did come. With about 2 minutes left, Justin Lawrie was given time to turn in the box and buried the ball past the keeper from around the pentaly-spot. A well deserved draw was the final result, with both teams having the chance to score more, but had Kemnay been playing to their potential a home win should have been the result.

Sunday 29th October

Glentanar v Kemnay FC
Away,

Glentanar   6     Kemnay FC   3

Kemnay suffered their first away defeat of the season at the hands of a very good Glentanar side. Played over three periods of 20 minutes, the first two finished 2-0 to the home side, but in a very good third period Kemnay brought it back to 4-3 overall, before losing two late goals.
The first period was dominated by the Glentanar side, with the good goalkeeping of Andrew Grant the main reason for the scoreline remaining at 2-0. The Kemnay defence was certainly the busiest area of the field, as the home side peppered the goal with shots. Again, the defence played very well this week, with Liam Morrison carrying on from last week, showing some good timing with his tackling. The first shot at the Glentanar goal came from Liam Stephen well through the 20-minutes, when he just put the ball past the top-right corner of the post & bar. There were some signs of hope, however, as Lewis Thomson followed up Liam's effort with two shots in the next few minutes, one of which forced a save from the home keeper.
The second 20 saw a more even game, but still edged by Glentanar. Some more composed passing and finishing could have given Kemnay some chance of getting on the scoresheet, but despite Andrew's efforts between the sticks, another two goals hit the back of the Kemnay net. There was a lot more attacking moves from the away side, and the Glentanar keeper and defence were being called more into the game, but the second period was to end with the scoreline at 4-0.
Kemnay came to life in the final period, with Josh Collie getting an early goal to claim his first of the season. The goal seemed to kick life into the side, and Lewis Thomson added a second soon after, although Glentanar did manage to miss a penalty between the Kemnay goals. In what seemed a slightly harsh call, justice was perhaps done when the ball was hit well over the bar. Lewis found himself free just outside the box soon after his first goal, and after running in on goal, thumped a good goal into the net giving the home keeper no chance. This gave Kemnay a 3-0 lead in the final period, to take the tie to 4-3 overall. Just as it looked like they might get an equalising goal, Glentanar pulled further in front, and then added another just as the final whistle was sounded. The final score was 2-3 for the final period, but Glentanar deservedly took the win 6-3 overall. Despite a few meaty challenges from both sides, it was a hard-fought but fair game, and the performance of the team was better than in the last couple of weeks. All players were giving it their all, and there were quite a few contenders for Player Of The Match.

Kemnay FC v Colony Park
At Home, Bogbeth Park, Kemnay

Kemnay FC   4     Colony Park   1

Back to winning ways for Kemnay this week, as they faced a Guy Fawkes Day clash with Inverurie side Colony Park, and thankfully there wasn't a damp squib in sight!
In what turned out to be a reasonably comfortable first half, Callum Murdoch put Kemnay in front early with an excellent headed goal from Justin Lawrie’s corner kick. And Callum almost added a second soon after with an excellent shot. Kemnay were very dominant in the early exchanges, and Josh Collie was next to try his luck on goal. Lewis Thomson soon got into the action, producing a good save from the keeper to earn another corner. Justin had a shot blocked which came back to him wide for a cross, and it was also saved by the Colony goalie, who as well as being the busiest man on the park, showed he is a very good shot-stopper. Lewis was sent through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but the Colony player managed to clear the ball off the toes of the Kemnay striker. Lewis did make it 2-0 with a good shot partly blocked by the keeper, but the ball managed to go over the goalie’s head and cross the line with both Douglas Young and Lewis on hand to knock it in if it didn’t reach the line. Goal of the game was easily the third Kemnay goal, when a lobbed pass from Josh fell over Lewis’ shoulder for him to volley past the Colony keeper. There didn’t seem to be much on before Josh picked out the killer pass, taking out the whole Inverurie defence in one go.
The second half continued with Kemnay on top, and again Callum was first to threaten the Colony goal, hitting the side netting. Lewis then had two good chances, after a lot of close control and beating several of the opposition defence, his first shot was saved by the keeper when he shot from near the by-line on the right of goal, and in almost a carbon-copy move a couple of minutes later, the ball fizzed past the far post with Josh just failing to make up the ground for a tap in to the empty net. In both cases, an earlier cross from Lewis may have created a better opportunity for the home side. Kemnay were still obviously on top, and a shot from Justin just went wide, before Douglas hit the post with a well-struck effort. Andrew then completed the scoring for Kemnay with an excellent shot, taking his season tally to three. Colony put on an extra man for the end of the game to try to even up the teams a bit, and managed to create a few more chances than they had been enjoying. Once again, Liam Morrison played excellently in defence, with some brilliant tackling and good use of the ball when clearing helping the side create more chances, ably supported by Jordan Muirhead. The defence had a reasonably quiet day prior to the ninth man being fielded, but coped well with everything thrown their way. Kemnay were still creating chances, and a long drive from Lewis whistled past the keeper’s right hand post, before the Colony number 1 showed how good he was, first saving a stinging drive from Callum, the ball then ran almost along the goal line and with Josh rushing in the keeper got up and managed to get his hands on the ball just as Josh arrived, and stopped a certain goal. Colony managed to pull a goal back just before the end, but overall it was a good performance from Kemnay, although they will need to pass amongst themselves a bit better if they are to stand any chance away to Albion next week.

Sunday 12th November

Albion BC v Kemnay FC
Away, at Seaton, Aberdeen

Albion BC   1     Kemnay FC   2

In a very poor game Kemnay just managed to scrape a win with few of the players putting in 100% effort. The Albion team were all P3 with the exception of a few, and they certainly made Kemnay work for the result. Albion were the first to score, and Megan scored at the end of the first half to leave it at 1-1. The home goalie looked to have saved the effort, but it was just over the line. There were a few good strikes from Andrew Grant. One bounced off the corner post but it was a brilliant effort. Kemnay seemed to be chasing shadows for most of the 1st half, and at one point they all stood in a huddle marking none of the opposition as the home side took their throw in. It was a poor first half showing from the Kemnay side, with good opportunities to score being missed.
The 2nd half wasn't much better although Lewis Thompson did manage to score to bring it to 2-1. He managed to fly past the goalie and hit it into the back of the net to claim his 20th goal of the season. There were a few misses from Andrew and Lewis that bounced off the posts but were good efforts. Winning after a poor display usually shows a sign of dogged determination and isn't a bad feature if the team are playing well, but perhaps it is a good time to have a weekend off to let the players rest before the next competitive game, back in Aberdeen against Sheddocksley.
