Aberdeen & District Juvenile Football Association Soccer Sevens league:
Fraserburgh Link Up 4, Kemnay 98 6
10 Not Out!!
The first ten games of the season have now passed, and this was one of the best games to seal the 10th win!! Not because of the performance, that one went to the game against Fernhill Rovers, but for the fighting qualities the team showed to pull this victory from the jaws of defeat.
Some dubious decisions around the Kemnay goalmouth saw the Fraserburgh side lead 3-1 at half time, and the performance in the first half didn't inspire confidence for a fightback. However, the determination to win came through and two goals from Douglas, one from Andrew and three from Lewis Thomson saw the Kemnay side take the points back down the A96. Although the Fraserburgh coach thought Lewis Thomson was our player of the match, the award went to Liam Stephen for the first time this season.
Kemnay 98 5, Ellon Meadows 2
The run continues but the performance was nowhere near as good as last week. Justin earned himself the player of the match trophy by saving many of the team's mistakes, and continued his own personal improvement. It wasn't all gloomy however, with Lewis hitting another four goals and could have set up a few more if some of his teammates were able to keep up with him on the break. Andrew continued his good run of form in front of goal by netting his third of the campaign.
Fernhill Rovers 1, Kemnay 98 7
Another fantastic win for Kemnay, and more importantly it was also the best they have played all season. The passes were crisp and accurate, and the Aberdeen side were left in the wake as Kemnay hit them for seven. Another five goals were added to Lewis Thomson's impressive tally, while Andrew Grant and Jordan Sangster added to the rout. Justin also had a good game, with a lot of good tackles to win the ball. In fact, the standard of performance from all the kids was so good that the Player of the Match award was very difficult to decide.
Culter 0, Kemnay 98 4
The goals were spead through the team in this win, with Georgia, Andrew and Jordan Muirhead joining Lewis Thomson on the scoresheet. Kemnay started poorly and were unimpressive in the first half, but they managed to improve in the second half to make sure the run of wins extended to seven for the season.
Kemnay 98 2, Bridge Of Don 0
An early goal from Lewis Thomson put Bridge of Don on the backfoot, and the Aberdeen side never really got going after this. The two sides were quite evenly matched in the first half and Kemnay struggled to break down the visitors, with neither side really making the opposing 'keeper work. It was a different Kemnay side which appeared after the break, and they were looking a lot more threatening going forward. The home side could have extended their lead a few times, and the goal eventually came from Douglas to put the game beyond the visitors. An excellent run on the wing from Liam Stephen was just missing the final cross after three opponents were left in his wake, and better finishing or choice of pass could have seen Kemnay extend their lead on a few different occasions but the game finished 2-0.
Kemnay 98 3, Donside 2
A hat-trick from Lewis Thomson kept the 100% start to the season going in a tight encounter against a Donside team who also started the game unbeaten this season. A good performance from Justin and the defence kept Donside at bay and were largely responsible for the win.
Kemnay 98 6, Stonehaven 2
The 100% start to the season continued at home with a 6-2 victory over Stonehaven. Lewis Thomson grabbed all six goals to further extend his lead at the top of the scoring charts.
Report to follow...
Kintore 0, Kemnay 98 7
The first game of the season finished in a comfortable win for the Kemnay side, winning 7-0 overall away to Kintore. In an impressive first 15, Kemnay ran out 3-0 winners, due mainly to their excellent team work and passing, controlling the play for most of the 15 minutes. Lewis Thomson opened his scoring account for season 07/08 with a hat-trick in the first period.
The second third finished with a 0-0 scoreline, a result which was mainly down to the dogged defending of the home side and some poor and some unlucky finishing from the visitors. Kemnay hit the post during their many attempts on the Kintore goal, but most spectacular was Douglas' long range attempt which just scraped over the postage-stamp corner of the bar. Efforts from Andrew, Callum, Megan, Jordan Muirhead and Jordan Sangster as well as the two Lewis's made sure the Kintore defence saw a lot of the play despite the 0-0 scoreline.
The final period saw Kemnay put their opponents away in comfortable fashion, with another hat-trick for Lewis sealing the victory before player-of-the-match Lewis Rae thumped in an excellent shot, bulging the top left of the net while the home keeper could only look on. It would be fair to say that the scoreline flatters the Kintore side slightly, but their defence was kept busy throughout the game and did well to keep the score down, especially with Lewis Thomson looking hungry for goals to kick off the new season.
A great performance by the whole team!
